Now that summer is in full swing the barbeques and picnics are taking a toll on my spring fitness program.
It seems that most of my friends have been watching the food network or something, I can’t go anywhere without someone enticing me with something tasty, delicious and fresh off the grill. With all that great food and ripe fruit out there it’s hard to take care of the temple. To fight the battle of the bulge I’ve been using my bikes as my own personal “weapons of MASS destruction.”
I’ve never been much of a gym rat, it doen’t make sense to me to live in a place like Big Bear Lake and then stay inside to get that much needed exercise fix. Riding a bike around town even at a casual pace burns plenty of calories and it doesn’t feel like I’m “working out”. There are very few flat areas of any distance up here so even the shortest pedal makes you push your legs and lungs which gets your heart rate up and that’s the key, elevate your heart rate so your metabolism turns into a fat burning locomotive!
If you’re having a hard time saying no to potato salad, ribs, corn on the cob and strawberry shortcake smothered in freshly churned ice cream then you’ve gotta say yes when the friends call to invite you along for a ride.
Then you too can turn your bikes into your very own “weapons of mass destruction”!
